I am a postdoctoral researcher in accounting at Bielefeld University, based at the Chair of Finance and Corporate Governance.
My research asks why firms report on sustainability the way they do, and what that reporting achieves. Sustainability disclosure has expanded far faster than its quality and standardisation, and regulators, investors and civil society now rely on it heavily. I study its determinants and consequences empirically, using large corpora of corporate disclosure together with natural language processing and increasingly large language models to turn unstructured text into data that can be analysed econometrically.
I am currently on the academic job market. My job market paper, Philanthropic Disclosure and Political Insiders (with Vanessa Flagmeier), is under second-round revision at the Journal of Accounting Research. You can read more about it on the Research page.
